About
The global drug trade continues to exploit maritime trade routes, leveraging seaports as key transit hubs for illicit narcotics. With over 80% of global cocaine seizures linked to maritime trafficking, criminal organizations have adapted through sophisticated concealment techniques, corruption, and technological innovations such as underwater drones. Given the transnational nature of the issue, collaboration between law enforcement agencies and private sector stakeholders is crucial to disrupting these supply chains. Recognizing this challenge, the International Security Alliance (ISA) Seaport Expert Group is convening a high-level workshop during the World Police Summit 2025 together with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This session will bring together law enforcement, port authorities, private sector representatives, and technology experts to discuss best practices, emerging threats, and innovative solutions to counter drug trafficking via seaports.
